VW gets serious about Taxi fleets with Jetta

b_560_430_16777215_00___gallery_albums_userpics_10148_VW_Jetta_Fleet_Cars.JPGAfter plugging its Jetta as an affordable car with an entry price in Oman of RO 7,350/- (1 RO = US$2.58), Volkswagen Middle East is taking the battle with Japanese competition to the next level by seriously chasing the volume fleet segment.

A release highlights a recently concluded deal that sees its local Qatar dealer selling 300 Jetta to Karwa Taxi Services in the country to be used as taxis under the control of the Qatar Transport Company.

Commenting on the partnership, Marcus Butros, Sales Director Volkswagen Middle East said: “This partnership with Karwa Taxi Services symbolizes the first venture into fleet business for Volkswagen Middle East in Qatar. The initial handover of 300 vehicles is only the first installment to be received by Karwa, with a total number of Volkswagen fleet Taxis in Qatar reaching 500 by the first quarter of 2012. Volkswagen has great experience in this field throughout the world, and we’re confident that the all-new Jetta fleet will be well received. The Qatar deal is further evidence that Volkswagen has the right range of cars available to attract more and more fleet customers.

Volkswagen aspires to be the number one car manufacturer in the world by 2018, and as part of this strategy there is a strong focus on fleet business. Volkswagen Middle East has launched the first of three sedan models ideal for fleet business; the first being the all-new Jetta launched in May 2011 with the Polo Sedan and the Passat joining the portfolio in 2012.

“This has been a year of change for Volkswagen Middle East, with a great emphasis being placed on ensuring we have the right models to cater to and meet our fleet business objectives. In this category the all-new Jetta has been one of our bestsellers. In the summer months of 2011 alone we sold more Jetta in the region than all of 2010. We see great potential for our sedan category in fleet business throughout the Middle East as the cars truly cater to our customers’ needs,” concluded Butros.
