The Beijing Motorshow this year saw luxury brands at the forefront, targeting the booming Chinese car market

Great Wall Motors (GWM) is the largest privately owned automotive manufacturing company in China with an annual production of 300,000 units. Pick-up trucks, that have been gaining steady popularity in Oman as well, were one of GWM’s two major success stories. Since 1998, three years after it was launched as China’s first Pick-up trucks, GWM Pick-ups have been ranked first in market share, product range, export volume and sales successfully for seven years. The second step to success was GWM’s SUV line.

In December 2003 GWM was listed in the Hong Kong Stock market. Located in Baoding, 150 kms southwest of Beijing, Hebei province GWM has a modern auto industry zone with two separate manufacturing plants, the first of which produces 100,000 Hovers and Pick Ups. The second ultra modern car plant began production in the end of 2007 and has a capacity of 200,000 units . Besides its manufacturing plants the company also possesses a state of the art R & D centre. With a corporate philosophy to be different in order to gain an edge in the marketplace, R & D continues to play a major role in producing newer models.
